Responsibilities

The Department Director wears many hats. Often, he or she is also a standing member of a field team. Their expertise should cover a wide range of areas including but not limited to: Languages, Anthropology, Archaeology, Management, etc. Directors are also expected to continue training and be able to take over command should it ever be needed. A director's line of command is based on years experience if civilian.

The director, due to need, would have one of the highest security clearances of all civilian personnel. He or she would have certain jurisprudence in allotting information to Cultural Sciences staff.

Included in the Director's Duties:

• Command duty rotation (required to spend time as CO, usually on a weekend basis with backup to further training; spends one rotation as CO of various off world sites)
• Recommending and assisting in the recruitment of new personnel
• Updating, maintaining, presenting the orientation to new personnel
• Training new personnel
• Assigning personnel to missions and projects based on need
• Keeping entire department updated on current events based on clearances
• Regular reviews and recommendations for promotions, contract renewals, contract rate increases
• Creating, maintaining, administering department budget
• Ordering and assigning use of equipment
• Handles all "eyes only" clearance material

Responsibilities

The Department Assistant Director has to be as flexible, disciplined, and ultimately as well-trained as the Director. The AD may or may not be permanently assigned to a field team. As they are the Director's primary back-up, they are less rarely given long-term field assignments. Their expertise should cover a wide range of areas including but not limited to: Languages, Anthropology, Archaeology, Management, etc.

The Assistant Director needs to be able to manage the department in the director's absence, but would have a lower security clearance and restricted access to personnel files.

Included in the AD's Routine Duties:

• Updating, maintaining, presenting the orientation to new personnel
• Training new personnel
• Assigning personnel to missions and projects based on need
• Keeping entire department updated on current events based on clearances
• Assigning use of departmental resources such as lab time, equipment, etc.

Senior Staff may or may not be permanently assigned to a field team. As they are the Their expertise should cover a wide range of areas including but not limited to: Languages, Anthropology, Archaeology, Survival, etc.

Included in Senior Staff's Routine Duties:

• Updating, maintaining, presenting the orientation to new personnel upon request.
• Training new personnel upon request.
• Being assigned to missions based on need.
• Keeping entire department updated on their current projects and work assignment progress as well as that of any junior staff assigned to them.
• Assigning use of departmental resources such as lab time, equipment, etc. to junior staff as needed.
• Some senior staff will serve full-time on field teams.
