Personality and Background
Personality:
Brian had to work hard to reach his current rank or win a place in the SAS, but he usually does not seem to be overly proud of his achievements. The Army has much become Brian's home, a place he belongs to and hard work is just part of the deal. He easily connects with his team or platoon and is very loyal to his men. He is a very dedicated character and if he is set a task he'll do whatever is in his strength to get the job done.
While generally respectful of the chain of command, he sometimes has a stubborn streak, which he works hard to keep in check. In situations where he feels the need to defend one of his men, or his men in general against a superior this stubborn streak can manifest full force.
Brian does not trust justice, nor does he expect the system to deal out justice, most of the time he expects the opposite. It is one of the things that make him come across a cynic at times.
Outside of duty he is usually an easygoing character with a penchant to quote lyrics for an answer to questions, and with a good deal of humor. Most of his comrades attribute him the Irish mix of humor and melancholy.

Personal and Military Biography
Personal History:
On a good day Brian will describe his family as "the awful colour problem of the orange and the green". His father William Farborough was a policeman with the Royal Ulster Constabulary, (RUC) and a protestant, his mother Aisling Farborough neé McAllister, was a teacher at a Catholic girl's school. Their love and subsequent marriage did not endear them to either side and was outright dangerous in 70ies Belfast. Both of them also faced troubles with their respective family, due to that marriage.
Brian William Farborough, was born as their eldest child in 1974. His brother Ian was born in 1976 and two sisters followed in 1978 and 1979. The home of the family was a loving but troubled one, there were always tensions between their respective relations, that would often result in arguments, accusations and sometimes blatant attempts to influence the children to one or the other side. Both parents tried to reign in their families and shield the children from these things, but ultimately it was impossible. Due to their parents marriage the children found themselves on the middle ground of a greater conflict and often torn. During his young years Brian developed a strong sense to protect his younger siblings along with the penchant to provoke other long enough for them to actually start the fights that he hoped for. It was his father who time and again grounded his aggressive potential and encouraged him to find other ways to deal with things than using his fists. During his childhood years Brian was close to his brother Ian, who was far more timid and less prone to get into squabbles and fights.
August, 1st 1989 William and Aisling Farborough were invited to celebrating an anniversary of one of their friends, to be held at a local pub. Their four kids were at home, expecting them to return before midnight, but they did not come. Brian send his siblings to bed and waited for them. At 4 in the morning the police arrived at the house. A bomb had gone off at the pub killing 6 people and injuring 32. Both of Brian's parents were among the dead.
Overnight the four siblings found themselves orphaned and adrift, their whole world turned on the head. Several of their aunts and grandparents offered to take them in, arguing on who was suited best. Brian's attempt to keep the four of them together was ignored outright. Eventually their Aunt Mary Margaret McAllister decided she would take in both girls, so they'd have a decent home. Ian was taken in by the McAllister grandparents, who liked the friendly, easy boy. Brian on the other hand came to his father's older brother Tobias Farborough. Uncle Toby had not intended to take on that task, but he was the only one, who realized that the whispers of 'getting back' at the bombers were already around and pegged Brian for the most likely candidate to go down that road. He was the one who suggested the army as a serious career option for Brian and helped Brian to get into Harrogate. Brian and his Uncle were never really close, but as long as Toby lived he was Brian's confidante and friend.
The fact that Brian went to the army strained relations with his siblings, especially with Ian and when they learned that he had become a Para things deteriorated even further. With Ian drifting off into more and more radical circles, Brian eventually broke off the contact entirely. Brian has not met his sisters since they were separated and his Aunt Mary Margaret disapproves of him deeply.
During his repeated stations in Tyrone and Armagh Brian met Lilian Gregory. Lilian was from the Republic of Ireland and regularly visited her grandparents in Tyrone. After an off and on romance the two of them married Christmas 2001. Their daughter Aisling was born in Mai 2002. With a family on both sides of the border herself and with Brian being a Para, Lilian decided to move to the UK for good. Being a chef she found a job at a Grand Hotel in London, the family lived in the outskirts of the city. Brian's long absences made the marriage not always easy, but overall they were happy enough.
On July, 9 2005 Lilian was on her way to work as like any other day, taking the tube, when three bombs went off in the tube tunnels. Lilian was among the bomb fatalities. The message came as a great shock for Brian, he had believed Lilian to be safe and far away form potential dangers. For a short time Brian considered to quit his career to take care of his little girl himself, but as Alison Gegrory his mother in law pointed out: he did not have much in terms of qualifications to start civilian life. So eventually they settled on her taking care of little Aisling whenever Brian was away. In effect Aisling lives for the most time in Anascaul, Kerry, where Brian visits her whenever he gets enough time off.
Brian still hopes to find a more stable point in his career, with a more permanent post of stationing, that might allow his little girl to live closer to him.
